What really began my "metric endeavor" if you will, is when I was about 13 years old. I was reading my copy of Motor Trend magazine as I am a big car enthusiast. They were reviewing sports cars in Germany, which were euro spec. In a picture of a corvettes speedometer, the numbers didn't go to the usual 200 mph limit. They went to 320. My mind had immedietly thought, "320 mph". Looking further at the magazine article, it labeled the speedometer as being in kilometers per hour. I felt really foolish at the time. Embarrassed as well as I had thought the only measurement of speed in the world was the "mile". Needless to say, I learned that metric was the standard measurement of most of the world. This began my curiosity in SI. The more I studied metric, the more I realised it was very easy to comprehend. It would do America well to go metric

Hello. Im Derry ODell.  Im a 22 year old, who grew up in Riverside, California and take a big interest in science. I am a college student at DeVry University as well as a member of the US Metric Association. My degree is in Computers and Electronics Technology as I am pursuing a career as a computer tech.  SI units first got my attention during my trips to Mexico, Canada, and Jamaica, where I needed to be able to use metric units to navigate, and when I found SI to have a very easy learning curve, being based off of the decimal system. Metric conversion is something that is important and I will do my best to promote and help others promote SI
